McKenna's Birth

On Wednesday morning while making breakfast, I started to feel really strong pressure and almost immediately after I felt the first strong contraction. Then after a few minutes (9:53) it happened again. The same pattern continued through breakfast but after several false alarms I was still to afraid to admit I might be in labor. At this point the contractions were between 10 -15 minuets and I could still walk, talk and breath trough them easily.

After breakfast Brooke and I went to lay down and watch a movie. (Thinking that surely my contractions would stop)

30 minuets passed with the contractions picking up pace to between 5-10 minuets apart, and getting stronger. I could no longer walk or talk through them, The only thing that could make me comfortable was bending over my dresser and breathing. (I still did not know if this was labor)

I had heard that if it was false labor a bath would stop it, so I got in a warm bath. It was a lot easier to handle the contractions that were now 5 minuets apart but they were still coming. FINALLY I realized THIS IS LABOR!!

At 11:31 I called Kevin to let him know, we decided that I would time my contractions until 12:30 then call him and decide if he needed to come home. At 11:40 I called him back, my contractions were 2 1/2 minutes apart and getting really strong, He was on his way home. I also called my midwife, mom and Kathy at this point to let them know what was going on.

Kevin got home at 12:45 and not a moment to soon because my contractions were 2 minuets apart and so strong that the only thing that would make them feel better was literally hanging from Kevin's neck. We tried to wait until my mom and sister got here before going to the birth center but I felt like I needed to get there. We called my midwife Tina and left for the birth center.

The drive to the birth center was probably the hardest part of the whole birth. My contractions were on top of each other, I was stuck in one position AND I could feel every bump in the road. Turns out I was in transition at this time.

We arrived at the birth center at 1:20 pm. I was checked (7 cm) and then allowed to get in to the tub. The tub was amazing!!! With out that tub and all the help and support from Kevin, I don't know if I would have made it through the birth.

My mom and sister arrived (1:47 pm) Katie took Brooke home for some lunch and to take care of her for us. At some point (I was to focused on breathing know exactly) Kathy and Marissa showed up.

At this point I was sitting crossed legged in the middle of the tub with my eyes closed breathing, not talking to anyone or really noticing anything other than what was going on with my body. I was able to relaxed enough that I would have swore I fell asleep. Kevin said I only cried out twice during this time.

At 2:40 pm I got the hick-ups.

I was checked at 2:50 and I had progressed to 8 cm, Tina broke my water and I started pushing at 2:55.

I took 30 minuets, countless pushes and all the strength I had. McKenna Grace was born at 3:25 pm, Wednesday February 1. 2012 weighing 9 pounds 2 oz.

I had a small hemorrhage after she was born but other than that my labor went perfectly! It was better than I could have dreamed. I was home and in my own bed 2 hours after delivery.

Its been a week and I'm still amazed a what I was able to do. I love my girls so much and I'm LOVING my family MORE and MORE everyday.
